Available Gravel Varieties & Sizes

5/8" Crushed-construction aggregate, generally ranging in size from 5/8 inch down to smaller fines, designed to pack tightly to form a stable surface

1 1/4" Crushed-crushed stone ranging from 1 1/4 inches down to fine dust

3" Minus-crushed stone, rock, or gravel that measures 3 inches in diameter or smaller

Quarry Spalls (Base rock)-road base in muddy areas. They can also be used as a pavement subbase

5/8:"- 1/2" Chips (Clean)- Because they are uniform in size and free of fines, these chips are often used for drainage, decorative ground cover, or areas requiring excellent permeability, as they will not compact into a solid surface

3/4"-1/4" Chips (Clean)-Used as a top layer for attractive and stable walkways or driveways

3/8"- #10 Chips (Clean)- It is often called 3/8-inch clear chip, pea chips, or washed gravel, ranging in size from 3/8-inch down to roughly a #10 sieve size (about 1/16 to 1/8 inch)

1 1/2" RR Yard Ballast-It is usually 100% crushed rock with angular, sharp edges, which allows the stones to interlock and provide a stable foundation

2 1/2" RR Yard Ballast-Usually made from hard, crushed, non-porous rocks like granite, basalt, or trap rock, which provides the strength needed to support heavy loads

Pit Run (unprocessed, raw gravel excavated directly from natural deposits (pits or quarries) without screening or washing)

Tailings (3/4" Minus)-The term "minus" indicates that all material in the mix will pass through a 3/4-inch screen, providing a gradation that allows the material to pack and lock together tightly

Fines-Used for leveling under pavers, patio blocks, and flagstones

Sand-Primarily used in concrete, asphalt, road bases, mortar, and landscaping to fill voids
